National Asbestos Profile for Australia
The former Asbestos Safety and Eradication Agency released the first ever National Asbestos Profile for Australia.
The National Asbestos Profile (NAP) for Australia follows the template developed by the World Health Organisation and International Labour Organisation.
The development of this NAP supports Australia’s position as an international leader in the management of its legacy asbestos issues.
The NAP provides a useful tool for other countries to learn more about the impact asbestos has had on Australia for past, current and future generations.
The NAP combines information on regulations, importation and consumption, risks, exposed workers, burden of disease, incidence of lung cancers and mesothelioma, economic losses, and major epidemiological studies.
This document supports Australia’s National Strategic Plan and over time will be used to measure progress made towards eliminating asbestos‑related diseases in Australia.
