The Asbestos and Silica Safety and Eradication Agency's procedures for determining breaches of the APS Code of Conduct and deciding sanctions can be found here.
Commonwealth Child Safety Framework
The Commonwealth Child Safe Framework (the framework) is a whole-of-government policy that sets out minimum standards for non-corporate Commonwealth entities to create and maintain behaviours and practices that are safe for children and young people, including four key requirements around risk assessment and mitigation, training and compliance, and includes the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations.
Under Requirement 4 of the framework the Asbestos and Silica Safety and Eradication Agency is required to publish an Annual Statement of Compliance including an overview of our child safety risk assessment.
Annual statement of compliance 2024
Publication of this Statement by 31 October 2024 and the inclusion of our assessment result meets the agency’s obligations under requirement four of the framework, as embedding child safety and well-being into our agency’s governance and culture assists in the agency’s compliance of Requirement 3 of the framework – the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations.
Child safety risk assessment
In accordance with Requirement 1, the Asbestos and Silica Safety and Eradication Agency has undertaken an assessment of child-related activities and associated risks for 2024. The agency’s operations do not involve activities that directly relate to children.
Based on the findings of the assessment and the agency’s mitigation strategies, the overarching risk rating for 2024 is found to be low.
Mitigation
In line with Requirement 2 and the risk rating, the agency is focused on continuing to:
- take action to increase staff awareness of the framework by providing information, education and training about creating a safe organisational culture that protects children and keeps them safe for our staff; and
- ensure agreements with external parties appropriately manage risks potentially posed to children and young people who may interact with these third-party providers.
Compliance with the Framework
The agency meets the requirements of the Framework. The agency also adopts the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations and is committed to embedding child safety and well-being into our agency’s governance and culture.
